Money (That’s What I Want) – CrazyTalk, Cubase & Neospeech.

Can Text-to-speech offer a viable alternative to a vocalist in a song? This question started off a tongue in cheek experiment that eventually led to a song and this video. The song is a cover of the Flying Lizards 1979 hit single, which was in turn a cover of Barret Strong’s 1960 song. “Money” got picked mostly because the spoken lyrics of the “Flying Lizards” version made it seem well suited for text-to-speech rendition. The song: The text-to-speech voice belongs Julie from Neospeech. The song was sequenced in Cubase SX2 using A1 and Monologue virtual synths and a CM-505 virtual drum machine. The video: The video was created with CrazyTalk Animator using various images off the Internet. The video background was created by a Winamp visualization called Blur Mix 3 by Geiss. The two stars of the video are Kate Sheppard, as pictured on a New Zealand $10 note and Buster, my daughter’s toy leopard from “Blue Nose Friends”.
